HRM braces for messy drive as rain and snow move in

A special weather statement remains in effect for the Halifax Regional Municipality.
95.7 NewsRadio weather specialist Alistair Aalders says rain and snow developing this afternoon could make for a tricky commute.
Aalders says we are likely to see some snow in the urban areas of HRM before it changes to rain.
“The mix of rain and snow will be developing on the drive home this afternoon,” said Aalders. “Along the coast I think it does begin as rain or at least a brief period of snow changing over to rain, and a similar story in the city.”
Aalders says this latest system will be mainly a rain event for Halifax, with 30 to 50 millimetres expected.
“Temperatures will be above freezing overnight tonight so we see largely rain, and then mixing with some light snow Wednesday morning before the system tapers off,” said Aalders.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for areas from the Annapolis Valley through northern Nova Scotia and northern Cape Breton.
Rainfall warnings have been issued for Shelburne and Yarmouth counties.
