Thousands of Venmo users were left unable to send or receive payments on Wednesday evening, December 3, 2025, as the popular mobile payment app experienced a widespread outage. Outage tracking platform Downdetector recorded over 14,000 reports of service disruptions during peak evening hours, leaving users frustrated and searching for alternative ways to make payments. As of 8.10 ET time, the number of outages dropped to slightly less than 10,000.

The majority of reported issues involved the app itself (65%), followed by login problems (23%) and fund transfer failures (12%). Many users reported that the Venmo mobile app would not load, displaying error screens instead of account information. Server connection issues were noted across both Android and iOS platforms.

The timing of the outage was particularly disruptive, affecting evening transactions when many users typically split bills, pay roommates, or send casual payments to friends. The outage prevented access to a key feature: sending money via balance-funded payments.
