Eight years after headlining her last episode, the five-time Saturday Night Live Host is returning to Studio 8H on December 6 with Musical Guest Dijon. And she’s set her own bar pretty high: She’s been nominated for an Emmy for each of her five episodes, portraying an array of delightful weirdos between her debut in 2011 and her last hosting gig in 2017.
One weirdo you might’ve missed: McCarthy in a cut-for-time sketch from her February 13, 2016 episode. In “Supermarket Spree,” she played Padget, a determined contestant in a grocery shopping game show. From the beginning, Padget makes it clear she’s not here to mess around, and she’s got a plan.

Melissa McCarthy parodied Supermarket Sweep in cut 2016 sketch
Her competitor Melanie (Vanessa Bayer) has nothing on Padget, who’s seen every episode and clearly studied the inner workings of the show. There’s no competition when host Rob Dooley (Taran Killam) sends the ladies off on their final round of shopping. With the goal of grabbing as many high-value items as possible, Padget runs straight to the back to grab a giant side of Kobe beef.

While Melanie shops for pasta and candy, Padget’s loading massive wheels of cheese into her cart and snacking on mayo from the jar. Padget will stop at nothing to win, and McCarthy will stop at nothing to make a good sketch.

Here, she’s running carts into cast members. In “Lulu Diamonds,” McCarthy’s repeatedly falling down the stairs. In “Outside the Lines,” plays a basketball coach whose fiery temper has her throwing bricks and shooting t-shirt guns at players.
While she hasn’t hosted SNL since 2017, McCarthy has made five memorable appearances since then. She famously played former White House press secretary Sean Spicer three times in 2017, made an incredible “Weekend Update” cameo in 2018, and showed up as the deranged, milkshake-spewing wife of Host Martin Short in Season 50’s “Parking Lot Altercation” sketch.
