Oscar Solarzano: Arrest made after man stabbed in chest on Charlotte light rail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WTVD) — A man was stabbed in the chest Friday evening on the light rail in Charlotte.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Brevard Street in the Eastway Division. The condition of the victim, identified as Kenyon Doble, in court records, remains unclear.

On X, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) said they identified Oscar Solarzano, 33, as the suspect. Solarzano was arrested shortly after the incident and is in custody at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and being intoxicated and disruptive.

According to court paperwork, Magistrate Rebecca Howell ordered Solarzano held without bond, stating that he is in the country illegally and has been deported previously.

The stabbing comes three months after a 23-year-old woman was randomly stabbed and killed on a light rail.

The incident occurred just hours after former Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson was sworn in as Charlotte’s new police chief.

Gov. Josh Stein has spoken with Patterson about the stabbing and expressed prayers for the victim’s recovery. He also noted that Patterson is leading a new initiative to increase law enforcement in Charlotte.
