Blyth Honors Newcastle United Defender Dan Burn with Freedom of the Town

Councillor David Swinhoe, the Mayor of Blyth, paid a significant visit to the Newcastle United Training Ground this week, accompanied by Deputy Town Clerk Elaine Brown. The purpose of the visit was to present Dan Burn with the Freedom of Blyth, the town’s highest civic award, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Newcastle United, especially following his impressive performance in the Carabao Cup Final.
The award presentation had been initially scheduled for the summer but was postponed due to Burn’s demanding training and match commitments. In recent months, Burn not only celebrated victory in the Carabao Cup but also received his first call-up to the England national team, underscoring his growing prominence in the sport. Under the guidance of Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, he has established himself as a consistent starter, further solidifying his reputation as an integral part of the team.
The Freedom of Blyth honors Burn for more than just his athletic prowess; it recognizes the pride and inspiration he embodies for the local community. Throughout his career, he has displayed unwavering perseverance and determination, characteristics that resonate deeply with the youth of Blyth.
During the presentation, Mayor Swinhoe expressed his admiration for Burn, emphasizing how his achievements have significantly inspired young people in the area. “What matters most is how Dan has inspired our young people,” Swinhoe remarked. He also highlighted how Burn has elevated the profile of Blyth, stating, “It makes you feel incredibly proud when you hear your hometown mentioned on national broadcasts – he’s from Blyth!”
