Country duo Maddie & Tae, comprised of Maddie Marlow Font and Tae Dye Kerr, are splitting after performing together for 15 years.
But don’t “Die From A Broken Heart” just yet. The pair isn’t calling it a breakup.
They’re leaving the split open-ended and may make another record or go back on tour together one day, they told People magazine in a statement. Kerr will turn her focus to her family, which includes her 4-year-old daughter and 13-month-old son. Font will work on her solo career and pour energy into her family, which includes her 2-year-old son.
“Thank you for all the love as we step into this new bittersweet chapter,” the two posted on Instagram.

“We both feel overwhelmed with gratitude for what we’ve built with y’all the last 12 years,” the duo continued. “Thank you for making our wildest dreams come true and we hope you stay close by to watch us chase some new dreams. We love you so much and hope you still come shake ya booty with us on tour next year.”
Even though the two are not on their musical journey as Maddie & Tae together, they are still “doing life together outside of it,” Font told People.
“And I think I’m really excited to just be best friends and nurture our friendship and not have to worry as much about the work and still get to raise our babies together,” she said. “None of that changes.”

The month of December kicked off on a star-studded note with the Gotham Awards, the first major awards ceremony of Oscar season. As the end of the year approaches, December will also see A-listers step out at the premieres of highly anticipated movies like “Avatar: Fire and Ash” and “Marty Supreme.”

How did Maddie & Tae meet?
The two met in 2010 when their Dallas, Texas, vocal coach introduced them. The duo moved to Nashville shortly after, when they were around 16 years old.
In 2014, when they were only 19 years old, the group hit No. 1 with their debut single “Girl in a Country Song.”
Over the years, their hit singles and chart-toppers, including “Friends Don’t” and “Every Night Every Morning,” ushered the group to platinum-selling status, 13 CMA Award nominations and one win, and six CMT Award nominations. In May, they headlined the Ryman Auditorium.

The group’s next appearance will be at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry on Dec. 11, and they will tour in February and March before their split.
