The Department of Social Protection has announced revised social welfare payment schedules for the upcoming Christmas and New Year period.
Recipients of social welfare payments need to take note that changes to the usual payment timetable are imminent.
With Christmas and New Year falling next month, banks and post offices across the country will shut their doors for several days throughout the festive break.
Because of these closures during Christmas week, certain social welfare claimants will receive their payments earlier than usual.
Typically, those on social welfare get a double payment in the week leading up to Christmas to compensate for banks and post offices being shut the subsequent week.
A further adjustment will take place before 1st January, as banks and post offices remain closed on New Year’s Day.
According to a statement published on Gov.ie, the Department of Social Protection explained: “If you receive a weekly social welfare payment, you will get your payment as usual during the week commencing Monday 15 December, and an advanced payment for the following week.
This applies to payments made at post offices, by cheque or directly into your financial institution account.”
