Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones holds official campaign kick off for Alabama Governor

Former senator Doug Jones officially kicked off his 2026 run for Alabama governor.

Jones launched his campaign tonight at “The Theodore” in Birmingham With the event drawing supporters from across the state.

The date holds a special significance for Jones. Friday marks eight years to the day after his 2017 election that sent him to the US senate.

“We gave people hope. Hope for less chaos. Hope for more unity. Hope for a stronger democracy. And today, eight years later, We’re rekindling that hope. That optimism…let’s face it, there is a greater urgency for hope today than there was in 2017,” Jones said.

The republican and democratic primaries will be held on May 19, 2026 where both parties will vote to select their nominee for the general Election.

Four other democrats are in the run for governor right now.

Will Boyd is a pastor and ran for office in Alabama in previous years.

Ja’mel Brown is an online pastor.

Chad Chig Martin is a business owner.

Yolanda flowers is an educator and has also run for office in the state.

Republican candidates include senator Tommy Tuberville who will vacate his senate seat to run for governor.
