There is a rare air of optimism surrounding Manchester United after last Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool and they will be keen to extend their winning streak to three when Brighton arrive at Old Trafford for Saturday’s evening kick-off.
Confidence will be high after the first back-to-back Premier League wins of the Ruben Amorim era but home clashes with the Seagulls have been an issue of late, with Brighton winning each of their last three trips to the Theatre of Dreams.
That makes Saturday’s match an intriguing one and, despite their favouritism, United remain a difficult team to trust.

Manchester United vs Brighton preview
Ruben Amorim will be hoping that last week’s 2-1 victory over champions Liverpool is the turning point in his Manchester United career.
It has been a tumultuous 12 months in the United dugout – I won’t bore you with the endless stats, you have all seen the numerous Sky Sports graphics highlighting his failure – with Sunday’s Anfield success making it back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time under his stewardship.
United have also enjoyed three consecutive wins at a usually miserable Old Trafford, so there is definitely a rare feeling of optimism ahead of a visit from Brighton.
However, two of those victories came against promoted sides Burnley and Sunderland and the other was achieved after a fifth-minute red card for Robert Sanchez, who must have watched Jason Statham’s performance in Mean Machine the night before.
Brighton extended their unbeaten run to five with an impressive 2-1 victory over Newcastle last Saturday and, despite the Red Devils’ upturn in form, the Seagulls look a huge price at a ground they have loved to visit in recent years.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side comfortably won 3-1 at Old Trafford last term to make it three away wins in a row against United for Brighton, and a fourth is well within reach.
Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Brentford just three games ago and the Seagulls will follow the blueprint which led to the Bees’ success.
Long balls to quick forwards caused most of United’s problems in that defeat at the Gtech and with Danny Welbeck linking play and Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Diego Gomez running off him, those same issues may arise against the Seagulls.
Matthijs de Ligt, Luke Shaw and match-winner Harry Maguire held firm against Liverpool but they were hardly rock-solid, losing the xG battle 2.6-1.3, and Brighton may not let the same defence off so lightly.
Welbeck could haunt hosts again
It’s been almost 17 years since Welbeck made his Premier League debut for Manchester United yet the veteran forward is still performing at a top level, scoring four goals in his last three appearances.
The Seagulls striker has come back to haunt United a few times in recent years, scoring twice in his last four appearances against his former employers, and, fresh from his match-winning brace versus Newcastle, the experienced forward is expected to play a part again.
Seagulls to soar into an early lead
Brighton know a fast start will quickly sour the growingly optimistic mood at Old Trafford and Hurzeler will have his side set up to unsettle their hosts.
United found themselves 2-0 down after just 20 minutes against Brentford and with the Seagulls set to follow the Bees’ blueprint, the 5-1 available for Brighton to lead at half-time before winning for the second week running looks a price worth taking.
Manchester United vs Brighton Bet Builder
Brighton or draw double chance
The Seagulls have won their last three visits to Old Trafford and extend their unbeaten run to five with last Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
Danny Welbeck anytime goalscorer
The former United striker has scored four goals in his last three Premier League games and could trouble a still shaky Red Devils backline.
Casemiro to be booked
The combative Brazilian has picked up five yellow cards in seven Premier League appearances and lacks the legs to keep tabs on Carlos Baleba and Yasin Ayari.
