TTC will be a total nightmare on weekend with 2 overlapping subway closures

Two portions of the TTC subway, adding up to over five and a half kilometres, will be shut down for the entire coming weekend.

The TTC has announced overlapping full-weekend subway outages affecting both Line 1 and Line 2 for the weekend of Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, 2025.

Closures will affect approximately 2.8 kilometres, including the downtown U portion of Line 1 Yonge-University from Osgoode to College, as well as a roughly 2.75-kilometre stretch of Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, from Warden to Kennedy.

Upcoming closures are among some of the final major outages planned for 2025, among a total of 38 full weekend closures announced at the start of the year.

Here’s everything you need to know for the subway closures ahead.

Line 1

The stretch of Line 1 from Osgoode to College will shut down this weekend for planned track work.

During the outage, St Andrew, King and Queen stations will be closed, while the other affected subway stations will remain open for customers to purchase/reload fares and connect to surface routes.

Unlike other recent outages in the downtown area, the route will be replaced by shuttle buses throughout the closure.

The TTC expects regular subway service to resume on Monday, Dec. 8, at approximately 6 a.m.

Line 2

Commuters relying on Line 2 can also expect challenges this weekend, when the TTC shuts down the eastern end of the line between Warden to Kennedy stations due to scheduled track work.

Stations affected by the closure will remain open for commuters to purchase/reload fares and connect with surface routes.

This closure is also expected to wrap up in time for the start of subway service at 6 a.m. on Dec. 8.
