Strictly Come Dancing’s Karen Carney ‘crumbles’ mid-performance as judges ‘moved to tears’
The Lioness is amongst the four celebrities hoping to make it to the final of the BBC dance contest

Karen Carney ‘crumbled’ during her latest performance on Strictly Come Dancing as the judges and fans of the hit BBC show were ‘moved to tears’. The Lioness and her professional dance partner Carlos Gu are amongst the remaining couples still in the running to get their hands on the Glitterball Trophy.
Saturday’s semi-final (December 13) saw the former footballer take to the dancefloor alongside EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, West End star Amber Davies and social media star George Clarke. Each couple performed two routines in a bid to impress judges Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas.
Last week’s results show saw Emmerdale’s Lewis Cope kicked out of the competition after going up against Amber in the dance off, with the judges choosing to save the former Love Island star. At the end of Saturday’s show, Karen found herself at the top of the leaderboard with a total score of 78 for her two routines.
Karen was visibly emotional as she and Carlos performed a Waltz to Whitney Houston’s One Moment In Time. Speaking to Tess Daly after her performance, Karen admitted: “I just love this guy. I looked into him and I crumbled, and then I saw him go mid-dance.”

Giving feedback, the judges were also full of emotion as Anton said: “I got a bit emotional, I had to keep my glasses on. I never thought you would be capable of doing that. I never thought you could dance like that, that quality, that softness and sensitivity.
He continued: “Look at the state of me I’m an emotional wreck. My heart skips a beat when I see this, this is beautiful and I love you for this. Congratulations.” Craig also called the dance “very very beautiful,” as Oti remarked: “I can’t recognise you anymore,” as she praised the pair’s connection.
Shirley also said: “I’m getting choked up again,” as she grabbed Oti’s hand and continued: “We never thought we would see that so thank you to Strictly and thank you to you.” Carlos was also in tears at the comments from the judges.
Viewers were also in tears, as they took to X to praise Karen’s performance. @SHANEOfficial_ wrote: “I give Karen and Carlos’ Waltz a 10! Tears in my eyes. I have a curved spine; I understand it’s near impossible to do what you just did with your top line. This was stunning! And your softness and musicality! Off the charts.”
