Setka’s CFMEU ‘likely concealed’ $300k in donations: watchdog

John Setka and his top officials at the CFMEU Victorian branch were likely to have sought to keep secret more than $300,000 of members’ monies paid to help re-elect a former boss of the Health Workers Union, including by disguising the bulk of the money as business expenses rather than donations, according to a Fair Work investigation.
The Fair Work Commission is considering legal action against Setka and the now ousted officials after discovering the branch sent $329,294 to printing companies used in HWU secretary Diana Asmar’s 2022 union election campaign, including $34,100 to a company that allegedly provided no services and may have made cashback payments to Asmar.
