Pittsburgh Penguins Place Forward On Waivers

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Philip Tomasino on waivers, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.

Tomasino has had a tough start to the 2025-26 season, as he has recorded just one assist and a minus-2 rating in nine games with the Penguins. He has also been scratched multiple times during the season by the Penguins, so he has become the odd man out on their roster. Now, he is available for the taking on waivers because of it.

While Tomasino has struggled early on this season, the possibility of him getting claimed by another team should not be ruled out. The 2019 first-round pick has shown that he has the potential to provide solid secondary offensive production when playing at his best, so there could be a team out there willing to take a shot on the 24-year-old forward.

In 59 games over two seasons with the Penguins, Tomasino has recorded 11 goals, 13 assists, and 24 points. The majority of his offense with the Penguins came this past season, however, as he recorded 11 goals and 23 points in 50 games with the Metropolitan Division club.

In 218 career NHL games over five seasons split between the Nashville Predators and Penguins, Tomasino has posted 34 goals, 61 assists, and 95 points.
